FAQ

Do I need a referral?

No, you do not need a referral to see an osteopath.

What should I bring to my initial treatment?

It is helpful to bring any relevant reports, X-rays, scans or test results that you may have, however it is not a requirement to have imaging or testing prior to your appointment. Depending on the area requiring treatment, you may like to wear loose clothing or bring a pair of shorts if treatment on your lower limbs is required.

Can I claim treatment on my health fund?

Yes, depending on your level of extras cover. Most health funds provide some rebate for osteopathy, encompassing both musculoskeletal and laser therapy. The rebate can be claimed through HICAPS at the time of your appointment and you will be required to pay the gap to settle your account. Alternatively, you can submit your receipt to your health fund for the rebate.

Is there a Medicare rebate available?

Medicare does not generally provide a rebate for osteopathic treatment. However, there is a Medicare scheme for those with chronic health conditions which can provide a rebate for up to five (5) treatments per year. You should speak to your GP to see if you are eligible for this scheme.

What style of treatment will be used?

Osteopathy uses a wide range of treatment approaches and is tailor-made to work in synchrony with your body. Some techniques use firm contact to address motion restrictions by applying pressure or a counter-balancing force against resistance. Other techniques use a soft contact style and utilise the body’s intrinsic ability to unwind tension. These approaches are more subtle as the osteopath engages with breathing and the body’s involuntary rhythms. These include functional techniques, cranial and biodynamic osteopathy. In the case that a particular treatment style is not suitable or is not achieving the desired outcome, the osteopath may alter the treatment approach after discussion with the patient.

How do I know if Laser Therapy is suitable for me?

Laser therapy is only provided within the context of an osteopathic consultation and overall treatment plan. An initial Osteopathic consultation is first required where the osteopath will take a case history, examine you and determine the treatment methods suitable for your condition.

Is there an age limit for treatment?

Kristine has experience treating people of all ages, from babies through to senior citizens. There is no age limit for osteopathic treatment at this practice as all treatment is tailored to both the individual and the age group.

What is the cost of an appointment?

Initial Osteopathic Consultation (1 hour) – $175
Subsequent Osteopathic Consultation (45 mins) – $135
Subsequent Osteopathic Extended Consultation (1 hour) – $155

How many treatments will I need?

It is generally advised to have at least three to six (3 to 6) treatments, however, this varies depending upon the individual and the condition. Some people require further treatment beyond this in order to make further progress, stabilise their condition, and help prevent a recurrence.
